Amina Seck, a basketball player at Kentucky State University, was released from ICE custody on Wednesday, Oct. 7, ending two months in federal immigration detention, according to HBCU Buzz.
Seck posted a $2,500 bond and walked out of the Grayson County Detention Center in Lei. The summary identifies the facility as the location of her release but does not provide additional details about the case or the conditions of her release.
Her release marks the end of the two-month period described in the report. The available information does not state what comes next for Seck, whether she has returned to Kentucky State University, or how the development may affect her basketball participation.
For the Kentucky State community, Seck’s name is connected to the university through its basketball program. Beyond that connection, the supplied information does not identify statements from the school, teammates, coaches, family members, or immigration officials.
The report also does not provide further information about the federal immigration detention process in Seck’s case. It confirms only that she was held for two months, posted a $2,500 bond, and was released from the Grayson County Detention Center on Wednesday, Oct. 7.
Why this matters: Seck’s release is significant to the Kentucky State University community because it ends the period of federal immigration detention identified in the report for a member of the university’s basketball program. The available information does not establish what impact the release will have on her student or athletic status.
