Prime Video has released the first trailer and key art for The Greatest, a series centered on Muhammad Ali. The trailer introduces Ali’s story from an earlier point than many retellings, beginning with a kid from Louisville named Cassius Clay.
The approach places Clay at the center before the story moves into the identity associated with Muhammad Ali. The trailer’s focus on his early life signals that The Greatest will not begin by skipping ahead to the most familiar chapters of his story.
Prime Video dropped the trailer and key art on October 14. The release gives viewers an initial look at the series ahead of its full rollout, while the title points to the larger story the production will tell about Ali.
All eight episodes of The Greatest arrive on November 4. That release date gives audiences a set point to watch the complete series rather than receiving only the trailer and key art now available.
For HBCU communities, stories about major Black figures can create space for conversations across the yard, in classrooms, and among student organizations. The trailer’s decision to begin with Cassius Clay also keeps attention on the formative part of Ali’s story, rather than only the later chapters most often remembered.
The series may prompt viewers to consider how public figures’ identities and legacies are shaped over time. At this stage, the available information establishes the trailer, the key art, the early starting point, and the eight-episode release date, without providing further details about the series.
Why this matters: The Greatest offers HBCU audiences an opportunity to engage with Muhammad Ali’s story from its beginning, starting with Cassius Clay and inviting attention to the early chapter that many retellings skip.
